Working in Partnership

Yorkshire Coast College's Business Development Unit works in partnership with various organisations in the region, such as:

Engineering Partnerships
During 06/07, the College entered into a partnership with Plaxtons, one of Scarborough's key engineering companies. The partnership is supporting an onsite assessor to assess qualifications for adult learners. The College also benefited from this partnership through the recruitment of a cohort of nine apprentices during 2006/07.

A partnership has also been developed with Hunprenco to develop a better quality framework for engineering and has resulted in the recruitment of a cohort of apprentices from the company.

Community Challenge
Yorkshire Coast College was the lead partner in delivering the Community Challenge ESF project, which took place in 2006/07. The aim of the project was to enable out of work and hard to reach learners from across the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale areas to access learning and work tasters. The project was delivered in conjunction with Scarborough Enterprise Agency, North Yorkshire County Council and Ryedale Voluntary Action.

The Scarborough - Hamburg Exchange
The Scarborough - Hamburg Exchange is a great opportunity for students to both expand their professional experience and broaden their cultural knowledge, whilst improving their language and social skills.

In 2009, the College welcomed the opportunity to become involved and work with Hamburg Artis Service for Vocational Education, in partnership with Scarborough Renaissance and the University of Hull.

The purpose of the exchange is to support young adults entering vocational education and to motivate companies to train them to improve the future chances of young people through:
  • Vocational education placements, mainly in the catering and hospitality sector
  • Providing coaching, consultation and learning support opportunities throughout the two to three years of vocational training up to successful graduation
  • Assistance with finding employment after graduation
The 2009 exchange was a great success and to ensure that more young people have the opportunities it offers for them to develop their future careers, the 2010 exchange will also include students from Scarborough travelling to Hamburg to experience similar vocational education placements.
