Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Intermediate & Advanced Apprenticeships

These Apprenticeships will develop the skills needed to work in the Motor Vehicle sector. The Intermediate Apprenticeship is for people working as Light/Heavy Vehicle Trainee who carry out routine maintenance, servicing and removal and replacement of components across vehicle systems.

Apprenticeship duration

24 months

What will I study?

Whilst studying an Apprenticeship you will work towards demonstrating your knowledge (at college) and competence (at work) in the following units:

Intermediate Apprenticeship units include:

  • Health and Safety
  • Job roles in the automotive environment
  • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
  • Routine maintenance/vehicle inspections
  • Removing and replacing engine units and components
  • Removing and replacing auxiliary electrical units and components
  • Removing and replacing chasis units and components
  • Removing and replacing transmission area units and components

Advanced Apprenticeship (Pathway-Gas- Fired Water and Central Heating Appliances) units include:

Health and Safety
  • Job roles in the automotive environment
  • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
  • Diagnosis and rectification of engine units and components
  • Diagnosis and rectification of auxiliary electrical units and components
  • Diagnosis and rectification of chasis units and components
  • Diagnosis and rectification of transmission area units and components
Also embedded in the Apprenticeship programmes are:
  • Functional Skills in ICT, Maths and English
  • Personal learning and thinking skills
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through observation, underpinning knowledge questions and the development of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. There is also a requirement to complete the following elements: employee rights and responsibilities workbook and personal learning and thinking skills.

Entry requirements:

GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English. Vocational Assessment required.

What next?

We also offer the Diploma (Competence in the workplace) at both Level 2 and Level 3 in Motorcycle and Light Vehicle, this would take around 12-18 months to complete.
