Joinery Intermediate & Advanced Apprenticeships

These Apprenticeships will develop the skills needed to work in roles such as Site Carpenter, Bench Joiner or Shop Fitter. There are two pathways available within the Joinery Apprenticeships; Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery. The pathway that you study towards will be dependent on your job role and work activities.

Apprenticeship duration

12 to 24 months

What will I study?

Whilst studying an Apprenticeship you will work towards demonstrating your knowledge (at college) and an NVQ (at work) in the following units:

Intermediate Apprenticeship units include:

  • Information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • First fixing operations
  • Second fixing operations

Advanced Apprenticeship units include:

  • How to carry out safe working practices in construction
  • First fixing operations
  • Second fixing operations
  • Maintain non-structural and structural components

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed through observation, knowledge questions and the development of a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence. There is also a requirement to complete the following elements: employee rights and responsibilities workbook and personal learning and thinking skills.

Entry requirements:

GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths and English. Vocational Assessment required.

What next?

Following successful completion of an Advanced Apprenticeship you can progress onto Higher Education and study for an NVQ Level 4, HNC/D in Construction or a Foundation Degree.
