Health and Social Care

A career in Health & Social Care is one of the most rewarding ways to spend your working life and could see you earning between £14,000 and £26,000* with the right qualifications.

On these courses you will learn from our Health & Social Care team who come with a wealth of industry-based experience.

They’ll prepare you for everything you need to know to make the most in a worthwhile, rewarding and challenging career. Over the next seven years there is expected to be a 9% growth in jobs in Health & Social Care in our region, with over 8,000 people expected to be working in the sector by 2022*.

Health & Social Care courses cover all aspects of care for adults and children in all settings. The courses will cover development through the life stages, public health, physiological disorders, anatomy and physiology, equality, diversity and rights in care work, values & planning & supporting & protecting adults.The course will develop knowledge and awareness of the types of roles in these industries; from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. Work experience is an important part of this course and will enhance learning in the classroom.


If you choose to carry on your studies you could progress to study for a career in Nursing, Mental Health, Occupational Therapy and Social Work At Yorkshire Coast College we are now offering a range of Higher Education qualifications including Foundation Degrees in Early Childhood Studies or Social Care.

There are endless possibilities for a career in Health & Social Care in our region with many of our learners choosing to go straight into full-time careers like Residential or Private Care, or even working in a Hospital.

Carla a former George Pindar School student completed a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. Carla said:

"I chose Health and Social Care as I felt it would be a very rewarding career to go in to. I really enjoyed the role plays as I feel they made me more confident when handling real life situations and helped me to use my initiative. Yorkshire Coast College was a great place to study as the tutors were supportive and helpful. I am hoping to go on to study Psychology at University."
