Learners train in a our state-of the art restaurant, Fledglings and are supported by not only our expert tutors but also a wide variety of experienced business such as Hedge-Hoggers Cider, Glaves Butchers and award-winning and Michelin star chefs; James Mackenzie, Andrew Pern and Rob Green.


Training with Yorkshire Coast College’s Hospitality Department prepares you for a lifelong career with endless job and career opportunities. Whether you’re planning to work in a 5* hotel, provide food for residential care, run a local café or work at a Michelin Starred restaurant, there’ll always be somewhere for you once you have a Hospitality qualification.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

You will train in cooking techniques and preparing food for customers as well as restaurant service skills and customer service. The course will cover producing fish, meat, poultry and pasta dsihes as well as baking, patisserie and cake decorating and the production of bread. Learners will all have the chance to do work experience. Working in Hospitality isn't just cooking, there are lots of opportunities available Front-of-House, and training at Yorkshire Coast College will give you all the skills you will need to deal with any situation in this exciting industry.

WHAT NEXT?

After successful completion of the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Leadership & Supervision you would be well placed to enter into the world of work as a Front of House Supervisor or Junior Manager . However if you would like to continue your studies further you could choose to progress onto a Foundation Degree in Events Management here at Yorkshire Coast College or choose from a wide selection of degrees at universities nationwide.

Daniel Palmer
Daniel Palmer
Daniel Palmer a former Filey School student studied Level 2 and 3 professional cookery; he was named Hospitality and Catering Student of the Year 2015. Daniel works as a Chef at the 4 Star Crown Spa Hotel in Scarborough. Daniel said:

"I particularly enjoyed the creative aspects of the course, learning how to put a dish together and also different techniques to ensure it was presented to a high standard. On a Thursday evening we worked in the production kitchen preparing meals for diners in the college restaurant this was particularly useful as it provided me with a realistic insight into working in the industry."
